1. We have a VERY strict no rehire policy so if you worked for us before and quit without notice or got terminated and deemed non rehirable, we cannot rehire you. Please understand all of this is tracked within our computer system so if you worked for us at any location your name will come up in the system as a non rehire. Have you worked for Sonic before? If yes, please let me know what location exactly.

2. Is there a day of the week, time of the day, or week of the year that you are not available to work? What about during Christmas eve and other holidays AND MARDI GRAS? We close on Christmas day and Thanksgiving. And if there is a mardi gras parade near a sonic then there a big chance no one will be allowed to request time off during that week. Please explain any days or times you cannot work. Its not a deal breaker but we need to know. IE I cannot come in before 7am on Tuesdays.

3. At sonic we understand the importance of having a family life therefore we try to approve all times when requesting time off HOWEVER please understand that we have a business to run therefore in some cases we will need to discuss it prior to approving and may ask that you work a partial day. For example, during prom high school kids need off and that’s 100% understandable however allowing 10-15 workers in one store to all take off the entire weekend all at once is impossible and would kill our service for that weekend. That said, you would be asked to work partial days (IE 11-3pm on Sun etc). This is only one of many examples. Is this something that’s acceptable to you?

4. We love to have a fun culture at work however showing up to work ON TIME and WHEN SCHEDULED is imperative to us. Calling out because you can’t find babysitters or don't have a ride to work is not acceptable. Will you be able to handle your personal life so that you can be at work on time everyday?

5. Can you briefly give me some details about any work history that may help you get this job? If first job, that’s completely ok! We like newbies! 😊

6. We use an app called “QSR scheduling” for all employee schedules. You will need to install this app (free of charge) on your cell phone in order to receive the schedule. If you don’t have a cell phone the GM will ensure you get your schedule. Is this acceptable to you?

CARHOPS (Cooks and Managers please also read and answer)

1. Please understand that as a carhop you are representing the brand. ALL CARHOPS must be at their best appearance AND behavior 100% of the time. This means you MUST SMILE, you must tuck your shirt in AT ALL TIMES, must wear black dress pants/shorts (NO jeans or stretchy pants), and black non skid shoes. Carhops can only wear 1 set of studs (NO DIAMONDS OR STONES) in each ear, and a plain wedding band with no diamonds. Hair must be kept nice, uniforms without wrinkles, and no long fingernails to include fake nails OR fingernail polish can be worn at any time. No watches or bands (unless medical). Pants must fit properly and belts must be worn. At anytime you do NOT fit this uniform policy you will be sent home and on a second offense removed from carhopping permanently. Is this understandable and are you willing to abide by our uniform policy at all times 100% of the time?

2. Carhops are REQUIRED to run or skate when delivering orders so you must be fast on your feet. Are you able to complete these duties as a carhop?

3. Carhops make 7.25 and above PLUS tips THAT'S MINIMUM wage PLUS tips! Our carhops that do well average at least $30 a day. Do the math and that’s well over $10 an hour with tips! (must report tips) We do NOT believe in saving money by paying carhops tip wages of $2 an hour. We feel that’s wrong and only puts the burden on the guest to pay for your wages and we refuse to do this however Carhops start off at 7.25 an hour (higher with experience) and are REQUIRED to take orders on switchboard, make drinks on fountain, make ice cream and work drive thru. When first hired you will be REQUIRED to work these positions much more than most employees because you are new and needing to be trained in the positions. Please understand that you will be in training for at least 2 weeks and once you start carhopping you will still be required to rotate in and out of these positions. The actual position everyone is hired for is a crewmember position and as a crewmember you are part of a Sonic team and we expect everyone on the team to work any and all positions needed to provide excellent customer service and get the food out the door. Ignoring other stations and attempting to just stand up front so that you only have to scan orders in an effort to make tips instead of helping in all positions will not be tolerated. We are part of a team and a Sonic family and while carhops make excellent money we cannot be all about the tips and must be onboard to provide excellent service. We cannot do that unless everyone works together. Please do not expect to start off immediately or even the first month making great tips. You must first learn the positions and how the store works. This is VERY IMPORTANT. Is this something you think you can do?

4. At sonic all phones must be kept in your car or in the phone box inside the store. Using your phone while on the clock is strictly prohibited. First time you will be warned, 2nd time written up and 3rd time terminated. Charging phones is not allowed except in designated break areas while on break and you can only plug it into a wall outlet NEVER plug into a pc. Emergency calls from family must be taken on store phone. Is this something you agree with and will adhere to?

5. At times you will be very busy during your shifts and not able to get your stations restocked before leaving. This will mean that you will need to stay past your time (On the clock of course) to get your extra duties taken care of, for example, cleaning windows, restocking stations with candy, ice cream, cups, ice etc. In this business we cannot guarantee you will always be able to get off right on time especially if we are in the middle of a business rush. Do you understand this and is this acceptable to you?

6. Carhops MUST be good with math! ABSOLUTELY necessary. So if you’re the carhop and you take out an order to the guest and the order cost 5.63 and the customer gives you 10.03, how much do you owe the guest in change?

7. Please understand that keeping ANY change at all from the guest is illegal and will result in immediate termination. So if you owe the guest even 3 cents and assume they don’t want it and don’t give it to them it will result in termination. You cannot ask the guest if they want the change you must give it to them. This is a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY within our company which results in immediate termination and a non rehirable status at any other sonic drive in. Is this something you agree with and will adhere to?

8. Another ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY within our company is scanning more than one order at a time. At NO time are you allowed to scan for one order then turn around and scan for another order prior to delivering the first order to the guest. Scanning for more than ONE ticket at a time is extremely prohibited even if you are the only carhop on the shift. All orders must be scanned one at a time so that management can see the true late tickets and know where all issues are IE if we need more carhops for that shift. Scanning for more than one hides the problems and doesn’t allow us to correct the issue and it also hurts our customer service. Is this something you agree with and will adhere to?

9. As a carhop you are responsible for all of your money owed. During your shift any large bills $50 and over must be checked to ensure not fake and placed in safe immediately. Any time you have $60 or more you must put the money in safe immediately. We put a lot of trust in our carhops but have caught employees accepting fake bills from friends to pay for their orders. Please remember everything is on video and things like this are needless to say illegal. As a carhop do you understand you are always required to handle your money safely and in accordance to Sonic policy ?

COOKS (Carhops and Managers please also read and answer)

1. As a cook we expect you to adhere to our company uniform policy at all times. 2. Cooks are expected to work all positions in the back of house to include but not limited to, grill, swamp, dresser, wash dishes, help with garbage, filtering grease, clean floors at night and even occasionally help pressure wash the parking lot along with other duties. Do you understand this and is this acceptable to you?

3. If I asked you how much you need to make hourly in order to work for Sonic and stay how much would that be? Understand we are not making any promises only wanting to gauge how much you need to make. We try to start cooks between 7.50 to 9 an hour BUT the pay ALWAYS depends on your experience and availability. We also evaluated and give raises every 6 months. Again, no promise’s, but how much are you looking to start off at?

FOR ALL POSITIONS TO ANSWER.

1. At Sonic we have a camera system that is HD 1080p. It has over 35 cameras inside and outside at every store and they record ALL video and audio for past 2 months. It is observed from the office where we have staff watching everyday and the GM’s, area supervisors, and higher are always monitoring everything. We want everyone to know they are recorded at all times. Please acknowledge YES stating you understand you are being recorded.

2. If at anytime you feel sonic is not for you we completely understand. It can be a very fast paced and intense environment at times. That said we would appreciate at least a 1 workweek notice. Not doing so will only result in a non rehire status and if you ever did decide to return we would not be able to allow it. Is this something you agree with and will adhere to?

3. At Sonic we try to promote to management from within! We have a VERY successful track record of developing managers and general managers. Our management turnover is VERY low but we are always looking to build and maintain bench strength. We have several GM’s making anywhere from 60k-130k a year! In a couple stores the GM’s actually make 200k a year! Our shift managers and Asst managers are our backbone and they average 9-15 an hour and some are salary (GM MITs only salaried) We love to hire cooks and carhops that someday want to move into management but don’t get me wrong its not easy to learn our business and requires very unique and dedicated people to join our management teams! Just keep in mind as managers you must always set an example and you are expected to be dressed to impress at all times, punctual to work, and have good at math as well as, writing, comprehension skills and attention to detail. An assessment is required to be completed by all management candidates after the interview process. Here is your first attention to detail test..
